Behind Sour Flour

Brittany Wood studied Studio Arts & Photography at Brigham Young University - Idaho and received her Bachelor of Arts degree shortly after marrying her husband there. As her husband pushed his way through medical school and an Emergency Medical residency, Brittany worked as a professional photographer in Los Angeles and later became a stay at home mom to their two beautiful girls, Juniper & Josie. Spending a lot of time at home in the cold winters of New England, Brittany found a creative outlet in the kitchen with baking. She loves to incorporate her 2 girls with her baking and believes the best memories are created in the kitchen.

Brittany started her sourdough journey in January 2019. It was her new year’s resolution to learn and perfect making sourdough during the winter while she was stuck indoors during brutal New England weather. After a lot of trial and error and months of experimenting, she finally figured it out. Because she had no one to ask questions to or anywhere to go for help, she decided to be that for other beginner sourdough bakers online. She started her Instagram account Sour Flour as a way to document her sourdough experiments and before she knew it she had a supportive baking community to share her passion with. She’s currently writing her first cookbook scheduled for 2021 when she will showcase a combination of her passion for both art and bread.
